Curious about Park Flyers
«

I have a couple of nice areas within five minutes of the house to fly a "park flyer". I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a viable thing for our windy area? How much wind do they tolerate and still be fun to fly?

How much wind can a parkflyer take?.....Really depends on the parkflyer and the skill of the pilot. I have a couple of parkflyers (Parkzone F4U Corsair and a Parkzone T-28 Trojan) the weigh about 30 ounces Both of these planes can easily handle winds in excess of 10 MPH. I have flown both these planes in 15 - 20 MPH winds and it was fun flying, a handful to be sure, but still fun. A parkflyer is an aircraft that weighs less than 32 ounces flying weight. That said, the less weight, the less wind they can handle or the more skill the pilot needs.
I have and will continue to fly these types of aircraft at some local parks, but do so with care. If the park is crowded or has many obstacles and the wind is close to 10 MPH I stay at home or head to the field.

I agree with Gene, once you can fly a parkflyer well with little wind, esp the foamys, they're alot of fun in the stronger winds.Landings are usually not very pretty tho......
